2023 - Season Number Ten
It's not often that a group of guys get together one year, decide to do a little fantasy football league... and then keep it going for ten whole years. As I sit writing this, we are beginning our 12th season - and eight of our members have been in the League for a decade or more. To even get to this point is tremendous. Well done, y'all. I'm honored.
As I began law school, I made the decision to step aside from leadership duties temporarily. Al Ohlinger (once again) and Alex Annan took over the reins. The League confronted the tough decision to replace an inactive member (Jared Kmiecik). With the replacement came an unexpected, but welcome change: estrogen. Welcome to the League, Marie Ohlinger! We all hope you're not as good as your brother.
Other Rules Committee changes took place, such as a codification of the Labor Day draft rule (unless it should fall on Kaelan's birthday - in which case, the draft takes place the day before). The trade deadline was moved back as well.
The tenth season ended with only the third non-Kenneth/Kaelan champion in the League's ten seasons, as Alex Annan took home the trophy. After a meager 4-4 start, Alex took off and won every single remaining game on his schedule. Ironically, the two teams he dispatched on the way to the 'ship were Sean Alumbaugh (perennial shortfaller) and... Aaron Green, competing in his first playoffs since 2015.
It was an odd journey for Aaron, considering his regular season ended 6-8. Certainly, no one expected he would make a run after starting 0-4. Even less likely did it seem as he stumbled into the postseason by losing his last three regular-season games. And yet... life finds a way. Until you run into Alex Annan.
As the season drew to a close, a new candidate appeared - RJ Dechow ran for Commissioner, with Al Ohlinger as his Lieutenant Commissioner. Additionally, Dan the Man Jackson said his farewells, leaving the League, who chose my father-in-law Jason McMichael to take his place. Additionally, dues were raised to $30.
