Power Rankings Week Two: Electric Boogaloo

Ya’ll are going to have to start ponying up for running backs, they’re clearly in demand. As in, WR1’s for RB2’s. At least. That’s how thin the position is right now. Good luck trying to trade for them.
Power rankings. Let’s do this.
1. LONG BOMB FROM PATRICK MAHOMES (1-1) (+10)
Wow. Highest ever one-week score? Check. Best score by a single player that I can remember? Check. Overreaction in the power rankings? Maybe, but 170 points is absolutely nuts and I can’t rightly put any team ahead of Aaron here. The big question is, will consistency follow? You can’t count on that type of performance from the Chiefs every week, so will Aaron be able to make the correct lineup decisions in key weeks? He does lead the league in point scored and a win over Team Suspension never hurts your playoff chances, that’s for sure.
2. Crazy Train (2-0) (+3)
This will be a theme of the power rankings: consistency. And Sean’s team has the best kind of consistency you can have through two weeks, consistent high scores and consistent wins. Once Team Mahomes comes back down to Earth, this may be the team in the league to beat. However, a quick look at the roster shows plenty of players injured, with 6 in total. Can Crazy Train navigate these and keep up that consistency?
3. Children of Thanos (2-0) (-1)
The drop in position here is more about what the teams ahead of Children of Thanos did, not what this team didn’t do. Starting the season 2-0 is just what you’re looking for. And Brandon may have just added another stone to his gauntlet with Josh Gordon being traded to the Patriots. That combined with the future additions of Julian Edelman and Mark Ingram means this team is only getting stronger. The addition of Ingram should especially help with the league being starved for good running backs.
4. Avant Gardyns (1-1) (+2)
Alex’s team bounced back in a big way this week with an impressive number that in almost any other week would be a high score. This team has so many studs that I just don’t see them losing many games this year. And Gurley is a crown jewel with consistent running backs being so hard to come by. Solid playoff contender here that I only see moving up.
5. Party Like It’s 1999 (2-0) (-2)
In the three years I’ve played fantasy football, at least two out of my top three draft picks have been out of commission quickly into the season every year. It’s really like playing on hard mode. While 2-0 is nice, I just don’t see the pieces I have being consistent enough down the stretch to contend, and I think I’ll have to get some good luck (which I have had in previous years) to make the playoffs again. Big chance this week to pick up a key win against Avant Gardyns though.
6. Team Suspension (1-1) (-5)
If there was any week to put up a dud, it was this week for Team Suspension. Regardless of score, Kaelen was not winning when he went up against the highest one week league score ever. But, uh, this was quite a dud, the kind you really can’t afford in most weeks. The strong week one performance keeps Team Suspension this high but we’ll need to see a lot better going forward or else the slide will continue.
7. I’m Bringing Rexy Back (0-2) (-3)
Look, it’s no consolation prize, but this is clearly the best winless team in the league. The points for column tells me that this team is right on par with teams 1-5. And, the two losses so far have been against good teams. But Kenny needs a win in the worst way next week, because you never want to start 0-3. Who does he play? Oh right, only the hottest team in the league, Team Mahomes. Gulp.
8. The Rampaging Koala Bears (1-1) (+1)
Oh, what could have been. Eli picked up Ryan Fitzpatrick last week, the second hottest QB in the league. He scored 38 points, following up a 50 point performance the previous week. The only problem? He was on Eli’s bench. Ouch. In a close matchup, sometimes the difference between winning and losing is a single lineup decision, but this one especially hurts because this one wouldn’t have been close with the right one. Big chance to see what this team can do next week against Team Suspension.
9. Just Call Burton (1-1) (+1)
Man, I am really kicking myself for not picking up Conner but kudos to Jared for paying attention and getting him. A better performance this week came out to be a worse result. That’s fantasy sometimes. Quincy Enunwa was also a solid pickup, so if Just Call Burton can continue to make good waiver wire moves, this team should continue to improve.
10. Frost Advisory (1-1) (-2)
RJ bounced back in a big way this week after putting up a dud in week 1. Unfortunately, Scott Frost and the Cornhuskers couldn’t do the same (lol). Why did he move down in the power rankings then? Let’s just say he would have moved up if I did the power rankings last week. The score this week was good, but I need to see some more consistency before I can move this team any higher.
11. Chronic Masterdeflater (0-2) (-4)
There is a big drop-off from the previous spots to the last two teams in the league at the moment. To be frank, I look at this starting lineup and see maybe one player who would be starting in my lineup and that’s Leonard Fournette. Players will have to start performing better or Dan will have to make some big moves to get this team back into contention.
12. Donald Trump’s Hair (0-2) (0)
This was the only team to maintain its place in the power rankings this week and, uh, that’s not really what Ethan wanted to hear. A mediocre week last week followed by an absolute stinker this week mean that changes will need to be made to bring this team back. But Ethan’s teams usually start strong and fade down the stretch. When the start isn’t strong? Look out.
Ninja edit: I forgot I usually do previews for next week's games. Here they are.
Game of the week:
Can Kenny avoid 0-3 or will Aaron and the Chiefs keep it rolling?
Others:
Could be a key game come playoff time. Alex is only one of two teams I've never beaten.
Which of these teams wants to contend for the playoffs? Another key game.
Which Team Suspension will show up this week?
Not much to see here.
Or here.
