The Breakfast League is a League of legends. Lol.
After six years of fierce competition, the record book is full of the tales of our deeds and misdeeds, our greatest accomplishments and most embarrassing failures. But, it is a living document - edited to perfection during and at the end of every season.
As a refresher to where we stand, let's take a look inside the record book and see what five records are prime for smashing this season - and which five should stand the test of time.
FIVE RECORDS THAT WILL BE BROKEN IN 2020
1) Regular Season Titles (Current Holder: Kaelan Carlson, 2)
Technically, this record can't be broken this year - it can only be tied. But I have my doubts that Kaelan can do two years in a row. Look out for '15 Champion Brandon Gaede, or any of the members of the Class of '16 to pull even.
2) Division Championships (Current Holder: IDK)
I haven't kept track of this since the beginning of the Breakfast League, but now that we have conferences again, it's worth keeping track of. I'll come back sometime this season to add this stat up.
3) Playoff Appearances (Current Holder: Five-Way Tie)
Well, odds are that this will be broken up somehow this year. With six playoff spots as opposed to four, the love could be spread even more. I'll laugh if Alumbaugh, Carlson, Dechow, Ohlinger and I all make the playoffs with, say, Jared Kmiecik, and the gap only widens between the five-way tie and everyone else.
4) Aaron Green vs. Al Ohlinger Head-to-Head (Current Holder: Ohlinger 5-0 over Green)
This is the year that Aaron breaks one of the most lopsided head-to-head records in the League. Al can't hold this kind of record forever.
5) Championships Won By Member of Class of '16 (Current Holder: None)
Why is this number zero? Seriously, I'm shocked. Let's look at the numbers: no one scores more average points per season than these three. Only two other people (Kaelan Carlson and the one-season Daniel Garcia) wins as much on a percentage basis as these three. They each have a regular season title. Two of the three always make the playoffs. I mean, this is just nuts. One of these guys has to win it all sometime.
FIVE RECORDS THAT WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME
1) Winning Percentage (Current Holder: Al Ohlinger, 66.67%)
To build this kind of number over four years of competition is insane. Also, Al's nearest competitor in this stat is almost 5% behind him. Of course, with only six years of history, one year could still swing this stat - but it won't. Al - props. Honestly, this is the most impressive stat in the League to me.
2) Lowest Weekly Score (Current Holder: Kevin Portis, 23 Points)
No one will ever beat this. This is just hilariously bad. Not only is it bad, but it's stood for so long that I can't even find the lineup that produced this monstrosity. In all reality, the early years produced some sub-par, nonchalant members. Now, we have the most competitive League in the land. Expect this record to stand forever.
3) Most Weekly Low Scores (Current Holder: Ethan Maas, 14)
Mostly, this is here because second place (Eli Thompson, 13) has left the League. The next closest opponent? A four-way tie with owners that hold 5 apiece.
4) Best Record In A Season (Current Holder: Kaelan Carlson, 13-0)
As much as Kaelan and I hate each other's fantasy guts, I gotta give him props. The perfect season. Never a hiccup. As tight as the Breakfast League is, there is no way this will ever happen again - at the very least, not for a long time.
5) Aaron Green vs. Eli Thompson Head-to-Head (Current Holder: Green 5-1 over Thompson)
Aaron, this is to even out your heat-to-head stat in the last category. Congratulations! You have an impeccable record against an opponent that has now left the League. Take pride, my man.
BONUS TIME: FIVE RECORDS TO WATCH CLOSELY
1) Average Points Per Season (Current Holder: RJ Dechow, 1644.5)
Why should we watch this closely? Because Al Ohlinger is waiting in the wings by just over two points.
2) Championships (Current Holder: Kaelan Carlson, 3)
Again, it's impossible to take this record from Kaelan fully in one year. But, I can't wait to see who wins the title in a Covid year. Will it be a new guy who gets lucky with Coronavirus-BYEs? Will I even the score with Kaelan? Who knows.
3) Highest Weekly Score (Current Holder: Kaelan Carlson, 182)
The scores just keep getting higher and higher. The top three highest scores are all from 2019, and four of the top ten. Expect some scores from this season to at least breach the board, if not take it over again.
4) Most Weekly High Scores (Current Holder: Two-Way Tie)
It's Kenneth Pancake and Aaron Green with 13 weekly high scores. Who pulls ahead? We will find out soon.
5) Kenneth Pancake vs. Kaelan Carlson Head-to-Head (Current Holder: Carlson 7-1 over Pancake)
Will I get my first win over Kaelan Carlson since Week 12 of 2014? I sure hope so.
