Week 2 PR 2023

Writer's picture: Al OhlingerAl Ohlinger

There’s loads of teams off to slow starts fantasy wise, and tons of injuries. It looks to be another lower scoring year this year compared to the record scoring of 2 years ago. Here’s your week 2 PR. Enjoy!

12. San Diego State Fightin Araizas (1-1) - PF 134.52

Last Week - Win vs From The Logo! 87.0 - 86.66

Dan gets his first win last week, but honestly, that was as fluky of a win as I’ve ever seen. It took Chubb snapping his leg in two and a useless Hail Mary by the Broncos to pull off a win by less than a point. It’s a disgustingly low PF so far (you could easily score this 2 week total in 1 week) and I’m going to need to see major changes before I could consider moving this team up in the standings at all

11. Koo Koo Ka Choo (0-2) - PF 178.36

Last Week - Loss vs Chillin’ with Mahomies 82.48 - 123.0

Koo Koo Ka Choo is 0-2. That rhymes, but Connor is probably not having fun with that fact given the success of his teams the last 2 years. Right now the team is suffering largely due to the Bengals weirdly being incompetent this year, and Burrow suffering in the process. That, and having Herbert as the RB2 when it turns out the Bears are just terrible despite being in one of the easiest divisions. It isn’t helping either that Dallas is willing to use all 3 TE’s, so it’s a 3-way coinflip as to whether Ferguson gets targets or not. Avoiding 0-3 in your division is a nearly a must to make the playoffs, so this is a crucial week, but it’s looking grim with Burrow not likely to start on Sunday.

10. Cousins had a Kittle Lamb (0-2) - PF 196.42

Last Week - Loss vs It’s Personal 114.26 - 119.04

Having two losses the last two weeks while putting up the scores he did was fairly unlucky for Aaron, especially considering the fact these scores were probably near the ceiling for this team. It’s disgusting how bad the RB’s are, and it didn’t surprise me at all the Aaron was seeking a trade for one. I’m just not sure what assets there are to give up, especially considering the injuries at the position. This team doesn’t deserve to be 0-2, but they’re here, and it’s going to be a tough road ahead unless Aaron can make a good deal fast.

9. Jamaal Jams (1-1) - PF 176.24

Last Week - Loss vs Iowa City Mo 93.78 - 105.46

Daren had the good luck to face Dan in week 1 with him not setting a lineup, giving Jamaal Jams a win, but other than that, these have been 2 thoroughly mediocre weeks thus far. It’s the 2nd lowest PF, but I’m still putting this team above the 0-2 teams because the lineup still looks decent. Zay Jones put up 0 but easily could have had 20+ if he had tapped his toes in the endzone on multiple occasions. The opportunity was there, but it was super unlucky. Lamar Jackson continues to produce despite the Ravens being decimated by injuries, and Derrick Henry is Derrick Henry. But please, don’t start 2 Patriots pass catchers in the same lineup. Even though I respect the homerism, that’s just asking for low scores.

8. It’s Personal (1-1) - PF 192.68

Last Week - Win vs Cousins had a Kittle Lamb 119.04 - 114.26

Maybe the funniest moment of the season occurred already after week 1, when RJ’s team with this name, inspired by Coach Prime, lost, and then ESPN sent the message “Don’t take it personal. It’s just a game, right?” Our AI overlords have a sense of humor! It was a big win last week as you really don’t want to start 0-2, but I’m still not sold on the roster, especially Fields as QB (and Kmet the TE), as the Bears are 100% the worst team in the league (yes, even with the Jets existing). Bijan has at least looked great, and Tee Higgins was his usually boom/bust self going from 0 points in week 1 to 25 in week 2. I’m sure RJ’s team won’t mind the low rank at all though - it’s just more fuel to the fire.

7. Iowa City Mo (1-1) - PF 187.6

Last Week - Win vs Jamaal Jams 105.46 - 93.78

Congrats to Marie on her first fantasy win! Josh Allen was back to his usual self (facing the Raiders will do that for you) and streaming D/ST against the Bears was an excellent choice. Also, picking up Puka for the low price of $23 will probably turn out to be the steal of the year (dependent on Kupp’s usage when he comes back). There has to be regret though, passing on McCaffery with the #2 pick, given how Chase and the Bengals look so far. If the Mo can get some contributions from the RB2 and WR2 slots, there could be some real mo’ to be had here.

6. Chillin’ With Mahomies (1-1) - PF 183.74

Last Week - Win vs Koo Koo Ka Choo 123.0 - 92.48

That’s a bit more like it. After an atrocious week 1, Kenny bounced back in a nice way with this week’s second highest score. Boy was it clear that Mahomes enjoyed having Kelce back, even though teams can basically triple cover him (and the Jags did just that last week) given KC’s other receiving talent. It’s still a concern that KC’s offense is not up to their usual standard given the Mahomes/Kelce stack, but at least things are trending in the right direction. In other news, Mostert went off last week and could be the steal of the draft, and Tyler Lockett started to look like himself of 2 years ago when he had Russel Wilson at QB. So Kenny’s got to be feeling a lot better about things than he did this time last week.

5. From the Logo! (1-1) - PF 214.4

Last Week - Loss vs San Diego St Fightin Araizas 86.66 - 87.0

I can say without a doubt that was the unluckiest loss I’ve had in fantasy. At the time, when I saw the Broncos complete the Hail Mary against my Washington D/ST I thought that surely the -2 wouldn’t matter given everyone I had left to play and a 90%+ chance to win. But then Miami got ahead and Tua ddin’t have to do much Sunday night, followed by Sanders underperforming, and culminating in a brutal injury for my 1st round pick, Nick Chubb. I had a strong week 1, but took a brutal loss to what is looking like the worst team in the league. At least I had the good fortune to have 63 be my lucky number and therefore outbid everyone for Chubb’s replacement. (Honestly, that’s what the Puka bids should have looked like too.) Good thing I drafted multiple RB’s because with Dobbins and Chubb already down, I’m going to need them.

4. Crazy Train (1-1) - PF 219.78

Last Week - Loss vs Saquon Deez Nuts 108.64 - 146.6

Choo Choo! The Crazy Train keeps steaming ahead despite the loss to a very good team last week. This was still a respectable score and could have been much better if any of Trevor Lawrence’s receivers could get their feet down in bounds - there were at least 3 TD’s to be had. Brian Robinson went very under the radar, but he’s RB3 on the year, and TJ Hockenson continues to be a stud. Like a lot of teams, an injury to Ekeler has serious hurt the RB position, but the other pieces on this team are so strong that some weeks it won’t matter. It’s not quite a complete team right now, but if Ekeler can come back, Sean’s team will be a serious championship contender.

3. Team Suspension (1-1) - PF 231.02

Last Week - Loss vs Left Handed Corn Dogs 111.32 - 118.6

McCaffery is just the ultimate fantasy player to own - strength at a very difficult position to navigate is such a luxury. And Hurts is just a good a fantasy QB as he is in real life. (Never thought I’d be saying that two years ago.) A consistently high score overall in the first 2 weeks is a great start, and one you look for in fantasy contenders. There’s no shame in the loss last week to one of the other best teams in the league, and McCaffery’s already got Kaelan off of to a great start this week from Thursday night’s game. Odd year Kaelan is in full effect so far.

2. Saquon Deez Nuts (2-0) - PF 251.56

Last Week - Win vs Crazy Train 146.6 - 108.64

You’re going to have to believe me on this one - I would have ranked this team in the top 5 in my preseason rank had it not been autodrafted. I do like to give credit to the guys that took the time to draft a team. But the personnel on this team are actually kind of disgustingly good. Herbert is excellent in fantasy despite the Chargers being pathetic. Deebo Samuel and Keenen Allen are studs at WR. (Why was Allen going so late?) Even James Cook is looking awesome in Buffalo, and we can’t forget about Saquon (got eeeeeemmm). I’m going to hold off on the top spot for now, because Saquon is injured and the Giants have looked terrible through 3 games so they’ll be extremely cautious about bringing him back. But if Ethan can add a TE, this team could easily contend for the championship.

1. Left Handed Corn Dogs (2-0) - PF 245.26

Last Week - Win vs Team Suspension 118.6 - 111.32

It was a great week last week for Alex, taking down another strong team and division rival. That plus the consistency from the first 2 weeks earns him the coveted #1 PR spot this week. The MVP is a surprise though - the Dallas D/ST. It’s too bad they can’t play the Giants and Jets every week though. Oh, they’ve got the Cardinals this week - never mind then. Every non-QB slot scored in the double digits last week (except flex which scored 9) and that’s a recipe for winning a lot of games. It turns out that having the #1 pick in the initial draft is a good thing. Would’ve thought! We may need to distract Alex to give others an opportunity to win. Quick, Alex, go find some headlight fluid!

Next Week’s Preview

Game of the Week

#8 It’s Personal vs #4 Crazy Train

Despite the difference in rank, I see this one as a toss-up this week. With Ethan looking strong in the division, this could already be an important one for playoff tiebreakers much later in the season.

Other Games

#1 Left Handed Corn Dogs vs #6 Chillin’ with Mahomies

Can Alex continue the consistency and start 3-0? Or will Kenny’s bounce back last week continue?

#2 Saquon Deez Nuts vs #10 Cousins had a Kittle Lamb

Despite the difference in rank, this could be a sneakily close one, considering Aaron’s luck the past two weeks and Saquon being out.

#11 Koo Koo Ka Choo vs #3 Team Suspension

Connor needs a win in the worst way, but it won’t be easy. Kaelan has a opportunity to bury the top 2 finisher with an 0-3 start.

#9 Jamaal Jams vs #5 From The Logo!

Both teams had uninspiring losses last week and look to bounce back to move to 2-1 in the division.

#12 San Diego St Fightin Araizas vs #7 Iowa City Mo

It’s a great opportunity to pick up a second win in a row for Marie, while Dan looks to avoid the dreaded 0-3.
