Welcome to Week 6 of the season! I feel honored that I will be doing a version of the power rankings based off my data analysis that I did. So since this will be math driven, I will be leaving all player descriptions, future matchups, etc. on the sidelines. I will also do my best to be completely unbiased... maybe except for Kenny 😉

One note to my data, I adjusted the “Future” column to represent the point differential between “Skill” and “Luck”.

Notes

"Skill" = Points for (what you scored) compared to the average points scored across the league

"Luck" = Points against (what your opponent scored) compared to the average

Present takes "Skill" minus "Luck" to see who has been the best team up to now points wise Future takes "Skill" plus "Luck" to see who will benefit from the points against reverting back to the average since some teams have played other teams that went off unexpectedly in a given week.

#12 – Chronic Masterdeflater

Skill: -121.6 Current Record: 0-5

Luck: -42.2 Future Record: 0-6

Present: -79.4 End of Season: 0-11

Future: -196.5

Total: -275.9

Yeesh. With the lowest “Skill” in the league, it makes perfect sense why Chronic is winless through 5 games. However, the troubling part is that he has actually been lucky this year with the 2nd best “Luck” score. If that reverts back to average the rest of the way, Chronic could actually go winless for next season as well.

#11 – The Rampaging Koala Bears

Skill: -110.5 Current Record: 1-4

Luck: -15.7 Future Record: 0-6

Present: -94.8 End of Season: 1-10

Future: -151.4

Total: -246.2

Very similar situation to Chronic above. The only reason that Koala is higher is that he beat Chronic last week. It could be an interesting battle to see which team avoids trying to finish last in the league. Best case scenario is to play the role of upset and screw up someone’s hopes and dreams.

#10 – Donald Trumps Hair

Skill: -65.5 Current Record: 1-4

Luck: 48.5 Future Record: 2-4

Present: -114.0 End of Season: 3-8

Future: -20.3

Total: -134.3

The first team to appear on these rankings with a positive “Luck” score! Usually positive means good things; however, in this case it means that the opponents you have been facing have been scoring above the average. Helps to explain why Donny Boy is 1-4 heading into the middle of the season. I do see him improving the rest of the way so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

#9 – Team Suspension

Skill: -61.9 Current Record: 2-3

Luck: -11.2 Future Record: 2-4

Present: -50.7 End of Season: 4-7

Future: -87.6

Total: -138.3

Whaaatt?? A two-time league champion at #9 with an average record? What are you thinking? Simply put, the underlying numbers do not lie. Suspension has not been as strong this year and while he technically is still in the race, it’s going to be an uphill battle the rest of the way unless “Skill” improves.

#8 – Just Call Burton

Skill: 30.0 Current Record: 2-3

Luck: 29.3 Future Record: 4-2

Present: 0.7 End of Season: 6-5

Future: 71.2

Total: 71.9

Even with “Skill” being the 5th highest in the league, the fact is that Burton has been unlucky which explains his 2-3 record and might be what costs him a chance at the playoffs. His fundamentals are good enough though to potentially challenge any team he faces. Consider him still in the running, although another loss will probably end his dreams for the postseason.

#7 – Attack of the Mahomes

Skill: 42.8 Current Record: 2-3

Luck: 10.8 Future Record: 4-2

Present: 32.0 End of Season: 6-5

Future: 64.4

Total: 96.4

Very similar to Burton above, except Mahomes has a wild card in a player that could go off... wait, this is supposed to be a numbers driven analysis! Damn, well, let’s just say that if there is any team that is lucky, it could “Mahomes”! Still in the running for a playoff spot, just need some “Mahomes” luck!

#6 – Crazy Train

Skill: 23.4 Current Record: 3-2

Luck: 10.2 Future Record: 3-3

Present: 13.2 End of Season: 6-5

Future: 40.4

Total: 53.6

Once again, very similar to the teams above (notice a trend?). The one key difference is that Crazy has one more win. And in this league, wins mean the most, not fancy data analytics. Crazy is your most average team on the list right now. Think of them as Iowa football, decent, not great, not bad, but could definitely surprise if things line up just right.

#5 – Frost Advisory

Skill: 26.7 Current Record: 4-1

Luck: 31.0 Future Record: 3-3

Present: 57.7 End of Season: 7-4

Future: -5.1

Total: 52.6

The last team out before the playoff teams and IT IS MY TEAM. Yeah, these calculations do take no prisoner. The main reason why Frost is on the outside looking in is that “Luck” has been favorable so far this season for this team. Unlike the actual Nebraska football team. (C’mon, just win one game please!) If the luck continues to hold out, this team can get in. Otherwise, it could be a frustrating stretch run as multiple teams climb above me in the standings.

#4 – Party Like It’s 1999

Skill: 20.5 Current Record: 3-2

Luck: 60.5 Future Record: 5-1

Present: -40.0 End of Season: 8-3

Future: 97.3

Total: 57.3

He has faced the unluckiest schedule thus far and he’s still 3-2! If that evens out, watch out. This team could rattle off some wins quickly. It’s only a question of if his luck will turn. If 1999 remains the unluckiest team in the league however, then his chances of reaching the playoffs fall to nothing.

#3 – I’m Bringing Rexy Back

Skill: 82.4 Current Record: 3-2

Luck: -5.1 Future Record: 5-1

Present: 87.5 End of Season: 8-3

Future: 92.8

Total: 180.3

Luck? Who needs luck when you have the highest “Skill” rating in the league! Rexy makes his own luck. And at the end of the day, I would like to highlight that “Skill” is the only thing that each team is in control of. And Rexy has controlled it. I feel pretty confident in this team the rest of the way. At least until Week 7!

#2 – Avant Gardeyns

Skill: 57.8 Current Record: 4-1

Luck: -8.2 Future Record: 4-2

Present: 66.0 End of Season: 8-3

Future: 59.6

Total: 125.6

The only reason why Avant is ahead of Rexy is because he has one more win than Rexy. Other than that, I’m still trying to figure out the name. Maybe that’s why his opponents have scored less than average against him...

#1 – Children of Thanos

Skill: 75.5 Current Record: 5-0

Luck: -46.3 Future Record: 3-3

Present: 121.8 End of Season: 8-3

Future: 35.1

Total: 156.9

When you’re 5-0, you deserve to be #1. Thanos has taken advantage of the best position to be in for these rankings, the 2nd highest “Skill” score and the BEST “Luck” score. While a 3-3 record the rest of the way might be conservative in nature, I believe Thanos has already clinched a berth in the playoffs. At least until the Avengers come back to whoop his ass 😉
